Andrew Myers
Andy Myers became something of a legend amongst the International Volunteer movement. He was a former British paratrooper and veteran of the Falklands War of 1982. In 1991 He volunteered for the Croatian National Guard and served in 106 Brigade HV at Osijek, Croatia until 1992 where he acquired a reputation as an excellent, professional soldier in the bitter fighting of the Vukovar Front. Later that year Andy transferred to the 1st Guards Brigade HV and served in the Zadar area. During 1993 he transferred again to the King Tomislav Brigade HVO in central Bosnia, assuming command of the famous Viking Vod, a platoon sized group consisting mainly of International Volunteers. Deeply respected by his men and setting the highest standards which he himself lived by, he welded Viking Vod into one of the most battle hardened units of the entire war and saw extensive action on many sectors. At the end of 1994 Andy relinquished command of Viking Vod and left Bosnia altogether, recruited by the American adventurer Colonel Robert Mackenzie into the employment of Executive Outcomes, a successful South African based company that provided well organised and equipped mercenary armies to foreign governments.
He was killed in February 1995 in the Malal Hills, Sierra Leone, refusing to leave and protecting his friend and colleague Colonel Robert MacKenzie who lay mortally wounded at his feet, caught in a rebel ambush. Neither bodies were ever recovered.
