Assad Tahirovic
Though he may have been of Bosnian Muslim descent, Assad was Australian and had spent time fighting in the Lebanon and Afghanistan, against invading Soviet forces. In 1991 he joined the Croatian National Guard (ZNG-RH) and fought with 109. Brigade in the Vinkovci salient where he was highly regarded for his great sense of humour in the most trying circumstances. He also saw action in the Posavina pocket, north-eastern Bosnia as a valued member of the intervention/reconnaissance platoon of 108. Brigade HVO in the spring of 1992.
He was later killed in central Bosnia, though no specific details are known. Assad was regarded as a decent type, always calm and efficient under fire, well liked by all his colleagues that survive him.
