Andreas Buhner

Andreas was a German volunteer from Frankfurt, serving with 104 Brigade HVO in the Posavina pocket during 1992. On the night of Wednesday, 24th October Andreas took part in a reconnaissance patrol near Ljeskovac, a hamlet near Domaljevac in the Bosanski Samac area. At approximately midnight, the patrol strayed into another HVO Brigadeメs minefield and Andreas, together with two Croatian soldiers, were killed. They were all buried with full military honours at eleven oメclock the following morning in Domaljevac cemetery. Andreas was buried on the far side by the cemetery perimeter, the simple wooden cross bearing his name later replaced by a dignified marble memorial, paid for by his Brigade. To this day it remains carefully tended by the local people for whom Andreas so selflessly gave his life.
